Sewing Machine Tension Replacement

Many sewing machines come fitted with a tension control dial that is used to control the tension of the upper thread.

When tension is correctly set, the top thread and bobbin thread will produce uniformed stitches. When the tension is too tight, the switch will begin to pucker and break.

If your sewing machine tension is too loose, the stitches will also be very loose.

Common issues associated with sewing machine tension problems include:

• Skipped stitches
• Thread too tight
• Thread too loose
• Tension unit broken

It should be noted that unless your tension unit is actually broken, a tension problem can often result from other factors not associated with tension problems such as bent or dull needle, poor quality thread and lint or thread caught in bobbin tension discs.

hello! I brought a brother sewing machine (model ae1700) a couple of weeks ago and have been using thicker fabrics to make tote bags.i have recently bought lycra material and the zig-zag stitch is not working- it sews a straight line and even skips stitches then.i have cleaned out the bobbin / under the machine, got the right needles and adjusted the thread tension, but nothing seems to be working. however, as soon as I use a thicker canvas fabric in the machine, it works fine again. (i can provide pictures / a video if needed. today I tried to use a t-shirt material and the top thread kept on breaking and getting tangled around the bobbin. I am not sure what the issue is, as I am very new to this.please let me know if you have any suggestions of what to do or if you think I need to bring the machine into you.thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you.millie

juki ddl-555just bought 2nd hand needs servicing and tension checking.

hi, I have two machines, one is a singer and the other is a silvercrest. they are both in need of a service as neither of them sew great. the silvercrest one doesn`t feed the material through and the singer seems to have a tension problem.

butterick eb6100the thread is bunching under the fabric, there is something wrong with the upper tension. i`ve tried all the basic troubleshooting like re-threading, new needle, making sure the preset foot is up for threading etc, it just doesn`t seem to be gripping the upper thread.
