chewing cotton up on 2 machines

sewing machine is very noisy. I use it a great deal and is about 16 months old so could do with a bit of maintenance. I took the plate off at the weekend and air brushed out quite a lot of fluff but it hasnt made a difference to the noise the machine makes. even husband said it sounds funny.
