i have just purchased an elna lotus sp sewing machine. it is in good condition but the top thread is not picking up the thread from the bobbin. do you think this is a major problem I have an identical machine so I know I am threading it correctly. I am thinking of returning the machine but I await hearing from you.

janome 2200xt. I am a novice to sewing machines so not sure of the proper names for all the parts - I bought this model about a year and a half ago - recently I keep breaking needles and it seems that something underneath towards where the bobbin is has got bent - maybe because I replaced it wrongly? so now needles just keep breaking - can you advise - does it need a repair or a adjustment and how much might that cost?
